"'Viva Cepeda!' is a brilliantly produced documentary which offers a great amount of insight into the life and times of Orlando Cepeda," Ozzie Gonzalez, Latino Legends in Sports.
"Viva Cepeda" is excellently narrated and is complemented with quality audio and spectacular photographic and video display. I especially liked the exclusive interviews with Orlando Cepeda himself which shows his charismatic nature and determination for success. He speaks about overcoming obstacles in his childhood, his emotions on his father's death and influence, career highlights, racism during his early Major League days and his feelings and tribulations after retirement. "Viva Cepeda" also include interviews with Cepeda's sister, brother, son, wife and close friends. Plus interviews with former and present baseball players like Juan Marichal, Ted Williams, Juan Gonzalez, Bernie Williams and others, which help depict the extraordinary life and career of this Latino legend. The exceptional gathering and compiling of information, extensive interviews, and outstanding production of "Viva Cepeda" makes this documentary an impressive piece of work by Director Mario Diaz and Cinemar Productions (www.cinemar.com). However, one added touch that is missing in "Viva Cepeda" is actual footage or photo stills from Cepeda's 1999 induction ceremony at the National Baseball Hall of Fame in Cooperstown. That would have given the documentary a more dramatic conclusion and display the final victory of his career. Nevertheless, anyone with an appreciation for baseball history and a desire to learn more about one of baseball's legendary Latino player, Orlando "Peruchin" Cepeda, will find this fascinating documentary an inspirational and enjoyable experience.
